Although rare, meteorites are the main source of iron in the metallic state that can be found in nature, e.g. those in Canyon Diablo, Arizona. Iron is absolutely the most used metal by mankind: it alone accounts for 95% of the world’s metal production.
Iron is often confused with steel, which is actually just one of its carbon alloys. This characteristic makes it essential for the production of cars, ships and building components.
